The Fat Robot Sings

This is it. The fat robot has sung. This is the final doodle for Doodle-All-A-Day. I'm a little bit sad and a little bit elated. This has been an interesting experiment, to say the least.

I can quite honestly say that I've learned a lot by doing this. I've learned a lot about using the Wacom tablet, and creating artwork in Photoshop. I've learned a few things about my drawing style, what I like to do, what I don't like to do. Most of all, I've learned that I can stick with something, even when I really don't feel like doing it... and believe me, there were a good number of days when I said, "I just reaaaallly don't feel like drawing today."

This has been a good warm-up exercise. It's time to move on to bigger and better things. I have another project that's been itching for me to take it on. I won't be committing to doing one doodle a day with this next project, but I plan to share a bit of my progress as I go along. I find that it helps to keep me accountable if I'm posting things online. So, if you're interested in seeing what I'm up to, hop on over to chadcburnett.com. "What is it?" was the question I heard from 4 different people as I was drawing this. The answer is, "Nothing." It's an eye and part of a face. I was really just practicing shading techniques using the smudge tool in Photoshop and liked the results so decided to post it... and yes, this is quite a bit smaller than my usual drawings. Like I said, I was practicing.

I got the idea for this one when I noticed that the doodle from May 6th (Mood Doodle) appeared to be looking at the doodle from May 7th (Everything Falls Apart), as if the stuff was falling down on top of him. So, the next few doodles will be part of a series that will connect to the one above it. We'll see how it goes.

My laptop has been overheating. One of the cooling fans doesn't seem to be working. Unfortunately, it has made drawing very difficult, as every time the system gets too hot, I get major lag. Sooooo... this is all I had time to scribble out. Hopefully I'll be able to correct the problem by tomorrow.

When I was 13 I found a Crown Royal bag on the street. I took it home, washed it up real good and used it to store my dice. Funny thing, as I met more and more gamers through the years, I found that I wasn't alone in using Crown Royal bags to carry dice. That bag lasted me until just a few years ago, when it finally wore out. I don't drink Crown Royal, but I thought I might pick up a small bottle just to replace my beloved bag. I could just pour the alcohol down the sink. Then I saw the price tag! I definitely wasn't going to spend over $30 on a dice bag. Fortunately, J.K. Rowling came to my rescue! You see, Jelly Belly (the jelly bean company) started making Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans candies (from the Harry Potter series) and selling them in little bags. Best of all, my kids bought some with their own money, and I was able to steal the bag without them noticing. It's a might smaller than my old Crown Royal bag, but I do considerably less gaming than I used to, so it's all good. Plus, I didn't have to pour ~~good whiskey~~ any money down the drain. Anyway, this is a very rough sketch of my current dice bag.

This one could have been titled "Oh, my! Look at the time!" The doodles I post are usually done the day before they're posted. Sometimes I'm a few days ahead, but most of the time I need to do one every day. Today's doodle was done at almost 10:30 p.m. last night. I was just about to turn the lights off and go to sleep when I realized I hadn't done anything for today's posting, so I had to rush this one out.
