Practicing a bit more with the smudge tool.

Smudge Tool Practice

"What is it?" was the question I heard from 4 different people as I was drawing this. The answer is, "Nothing." It's an eye and part of a face. I was really just practicing shading techniques using the smudge tool in Photoshop and liked the results so decided to post it... and yes, this is quite a bit smaller than my usual drawings. Like I said, I was practicing.

I've been thinking lately that what a lot of my drawings lack is narrative. I've got quite a number of portrait and character designs, but a lot of my stuff just isn't telling much of a story. So, I've been trying to add a bit of that into that last few doodles I've posted.

I got the idea for this one when I noticed that the doodle from May 6th (Mood Doodle) appeared to be looking at the doodle from May 7th (Everything Falls Apart), as if the stuff was falling down on top of him. So, the next few doodles will be part of a series that will connect to the one above it. We'll see how it goes.

This is a little more abstract than I usually draw... but it's also how things seem to be going lately, so it's sort of a "mood" doodle as well. I did this one with a ballpoint pen, because my daughter was using my computer for a school project.

Dust Bunny

So, I pulled my laptop apart to see if I could figure out why it was overheating, and out popped this guy. Apparently he had been holding onto the cooling fans pretty tightly. Things are working much better since I set him free.

Stupid Laptop

My laptop has been overheating. One of the cooling fans doesn't seem to be working. Unfortunately, it has made drawing very difficult, as every time the system gets too hot, I get major lag. Sooooo... this is all I had time to scribble out. Hopefully I'll be able to correct the problem by tomorrow.
