ROFL! - Color

Woah! This is number 300! Only 65 more to go.

Punchy

I'm rapidly approaching doodle #300. Like the 100 and 200 milestones, I'll be doing something in color. However, I've been doing a lot of color work later (finding it easier to do these days), so it's liable to be somewhat anti-climactic.

Rose

Continuing to draw from reference. Took the time to add some color to this one, because it just didn't look good in grayscale.

Caught Being Good

Finally felt well enough to do more than sit around and complain about how miserable I felt. Decided I'd add some detail and color to this one. Oh, and I changed the title of the pic.

Celtic Knot II

Wasn't expecting to post another one of these so soon, but I got kind of wrapped up in this one (no pun intended), and then ran out of time to draw anything else. This took me a while to figure out, and I'm a little less pleased with it than I wanted to be. But, all-in-all it was a good experience, and I'm learning a lot about creating these designs.

Celtic Knot

I've been learning how to draw Celtic knots. I did this one in Illustrator and finished up in Photoshop. I might post more as I get better at them.

Faun - Color

I hadn't planned on going back to this one, but I'm glad I did. I used a chalk-style brush this time around, trying to go for a more "natural" feel.

Desert Mountains

Practicing a bit more digital painting. Mountains this time. I'm really enjoying this type of thing, and finding it a lot easier than I expected.

Cloud

This isn't terribly exciting. I was just practicing some painting techniques in Photoshop. I think I need a little more practice...

Leading the Way - Completed

Here it is, my 200th entry to Doodle-All-A-Day. I added a background, some texture to the robot and made some adjustments to the shadows and highlights. Pretty happy with this one, and it has given me an idea for what I'd like to do once I've completed 365 (stay tuned).

Leading the Way - Progress (Highlights)

Only a little change on this one, but I think the highlights add a world of difference. This will be the last update on this before I post the final product in a couple of days.

Leading the Way - Progress (Shadows)

Making some progress on this. I've added shadows to the robot and the girl, so they pop a little bit more. Next I'll be adding some highlights, which should make it come to life even more. I've removed the sketch layer - as it is no longer needed - and added a (temporary) gray background.

Leading the Way - Progress (Base Color)

Added base coloring to the picture. Looks pretty flat so far, but the next stage is to add some shadows. That will start giving it a bit more shape/definition... I'll post further progress in a day or two.

Leading the Way - Progress (Outlining)

Lowered the opacity on the sketch layer and cleaned up the outlines over it. You'll probably also note that I changed a few minor details from the initial sketch. Next will be adding base coloring to the image.

A Series of Unfortunate Elephants - V

One of the cool things about elephants is that they are gray... so it's much easier to color them!

Space Girl - Color

I went back and added some detail and color to the Space Girl sketch. This one was a lot of fun to do. It had been a while since I'd done anything in color, so I spent a little time on this over the past few days. I'm really happy with the results.

Another Dog

Testing out some new coloring techniques and brushes. I'm really happy with how this turned out.

Yo, Lex!

This is my fourth shot at an established character (I seem to be on a roll lately). I originally planned to have Supes with his middle finger fully extended. Then I thought, "My friend Steve reads this blog..." and he loves Superman. But Steve's got a warped sense of humor, so he probably won't be offended. But then I thought, "My mom reads this blog..." and her favorite show when she was a kid was The Adventures of Superman starring Ben Affleck George Reeves and I didn't want to spoil her image of Superman as the consummate Boy Scout... Even though others have pointed out better than I ever could that Superman can be a real jerk. So, this is what we end up with. The gesture is a little less offensive, but hopefully the point comes across.

Clockwork Man

This was a lot of fun to do. I used Illustrator to get the gears shaped right, but the rest was done in Photoshop.
